Source and Integrity
Lotus Blooming Herbs™ works directly with the indigenous people of the remote Himalayas to provide only the Highest Grade, 100% pure, Himalayan shilajit available in the world. We treat the people and the environment with fairness and respect. We never deal with wholesalers or middlemen. We personally trek to the source to select and oversee purification of ethically wild crafted shilajit at altitudes above 16,000 feet in a remote region along the India/Tibet border. Shilajit from this area is extremely rare and highly prized by Ayurveda and Tibetan medical practitioners.
Process and Purification
Authentic Shilajit is not subjected to any solvent extraction, standardization, commercial processing or adulteration. It is naturally purified, according to traditional Tibetan methods, with filtered mountain spring water, before being laboratory tested for safety.
Shilajit of this quality and potency is a treasure of nature and supplies of the natural mineral supplement are limited.

What is Shilajit?
Shilajit is a natural herbal mineral resin, which has been used in India and Asia for thousands of years as a dietary supplement and super food. It has been shown to consist of a wide spectrum of minerals, trace elements and naturally occurring Fulvic Acid, which facilitates absorption of these minerals at the cellular level.
Shilajit has been used in the traditional Ayurvedic wellness system of India for thousands of years for a variety of health benefits and is considered to be an important Rasayana(rejuvenator). It is known as the “destroyer of weakness and conqueror of mountains” and is believed to be a powerful adaptogen, which balances and strengthens the body allowing it to function at an optimal level.
The potency of shilajit is considered to be dependent upon the area, altitude and type and color of rock it is collected from as well as the purification technique used to separate the shilajit from the rock. There are four grades of shilajit and only the highest grade (Gold Grade) is thought to obtain the legendary Rasayana powers that shilajit is famous for.
Lotus Blooming Herbs is the only source for genuine, highest gold grade, 100% pure Himalayan shilajit outside of the areas where it is collected. Please read our testimonials for honest feedback about how shilajit has benefited our customers.
How is it made?
Plants that became trapped in the rock of the Himalayas millions of years ago are transformed through time, pressure and extreme temperature changes into a black, gooey, mineral rich resin. In the summer months shilajit can be seen glistening on the surface of the steep rocky cliffs. It is then carefully collected by hand and purified according to traditional Tibetan methods using only spring water to produce the ultra pure Authentic Shilajit™
Millions of years ago when the Himalayas were formed by the continental collision of India and Asia, it is theorized that plant matter became trapped within the rocks. The enormous pressure that India exerts on the Asian continent and the hot/cold weather cycles in the high altitudes of the Himalayas combine over millions of years to produce the rich resinous substance called shilajit. We like to think of it as the diamond of the herbal universe!
For millennia, the mountain peoples of the Himalayas have been hand collecting and purifying this very special gift of Nature. There are several purification techniques but the traditional Tibetan technique produces the purest resin. The rocks containing shilajit are broken up and then soaked in pure mountain spring water. The shilajit, which is water soluble, dissolves into the water and then the sediment is filtered out. The liquid is then put out in the Sun to evaporate the water content. This process is repeated 7 times until the shilajit is ultra pure. In the final process the shilajit is heated to remove any remaining moisture and destroy any possible microbes and spores that may be present. Minerals and fulvic acids are not affected by heat. As pure shilajit is millions of years old there are no valuable nutrients or enzymes to be “killed off”.
*Beware of shilajit brands that claim their products to be raw. Raw shilajit may contain microbes and spores that can be dangerous.
Lotus Blooming Herbs tests all purified shilajit at a third party, cGMP, USFDA Registered Laboratory for safety and purity. Links to our most recent tests can be viewed in the Resources section of our website.
Are there different types of Shilajit?
Himalayan Shilajit is graded by the location, altitude and type of rock where it is found as well as the purification technique used.
There are four recognized grades or types of this supplement. After purification it is very difficult to judge the quality because all grades will appear similar in color and physical characteristics. This is why it is imperative to see the color and type of rock before it is purified. The rare Red/Gold rock being the highest grade. This Gold Grade Shilajit is the type used in Rasayana (rejuvenation) therapy and is safe for use as a daily supplement. Iron grade, found mainly in Nepal and Bhutan, is specifically used for imbalances of the Meda Dhatu (Adipose tissue system in Ayurveda) and is not suitable for use as a nutritional supplement.
Lotus Blooming Herbs travels to the source, at altitudes above 16,000 feet to personally select the raw materials before purification to ensure only the highest grade red/gold rock is used.
How does it work?
Shilajit is packed full of easily absorbable minerals and nutrients which benefit health and well being in a myriad of ways. It also contains high levels of naturally occurring fulvic acid that aids in absorption and assimilation.
A great many health issues can be traced to mineral or nutrient deficiencies. Intensive chemical farming (through pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, etc) and irrigation have removed natural minerals and beneficial microbes from our agricultural land and the plants grown on it. Shilajit contains a wide spectrum of vital minerals needed for energy reactions in our cells. Fulvic acid help to transport these mineral molecules deep into the body.
Shilajit’s uses in Ayurveda are legendary. It is thought to be a powerful revitalization and rejuvenation substance. It is also commonly used for a myriad of supportive measures including increased energy and mental clarity to exercise and muscle recovery. It is famous in India for it’s libido-enhancing properties and is used to support proper function of the reproductive system in both men and women.
How do I take it?
Shilajit is water soluble and can be dissolved in hot, non-chlorinated water, tea or warm milk. Shilajit can also be taken directly under the tongue but be warned it has a strong bitter flavor that some will find unpalatable. In Ayurveda it is recommended that shilajit be taken with hot milk, ghee (clarified butter) or honey. Vegans may take it with sesame oil or coconut oil. For Vatta imbalance sesame oil is recommended, for Pitta use ghee, and for Kapha take with honey.
Is it safe?
Shilajit has a long history of human use and is considered very safe. We test our products at a third party, cGMP, USFDA Registered Laboratory for safety and purity. Links to recent tests are posted in our Resources section of our website.
The standard supplement disclaimer applies: If you are pregnant or lactating or under a doctor’s care for any health condition you should consult with your physician before taking this or any other supplement
Are there any contraindications?
Phenylalanine, and essential amino acid, is present in trace levels. Persons with the rare genetic disorder PKU (phenylketonuria) should not use shilajit.
Do not mix shilajit with chlorinated water. Fulvic and humic acids when mixed with chlorine can produce dangerous byproducts. Be wary of other brands of shilajit that may use chlorinated water in their processing. Boiling tap water for a few minutes should remove any chlorine.

How long does it take to work?
Results can vary. Many of our customers tell us they have improved energy and stamina within one to two weeks. Many others report feeling a difference immediately. Still others say that it calms them and promotes sleep. Shilajit is an adaptive substance and, depending on the individual, benefits can be very different and wide ranging.
Note on Fulvic Acid Percentage
Fulvic acid has been identified as one of the active nutrients in shilajit and many companies selling this “shilajit” advertise specific and standardized percentages of fulvic acid in their product.
We are often asked to produce lab results of the fulvic acid percentage of our shilajit. After conferring with several prominent laboratories we have discovered that there is no laboratory that can correctly measure fulvic acid percentages with any accuracy and consistency.
In both scientific literature and among scientists, there is no agreement on what the real size and molecular weight of the fulvic acid molecule is. There is no universal standard for the measurement of fulvic acid percentages.
In addition, there are so many minerals, vitamins, organic matter, amino acids, and unidentified acid chians also present in the fulvic domain that would need to be removed leaving just the actual fulvic molecules for testing.
To our knowledge, by altering the type of testing, wildly different fulvic percentages can be measured from the same sample. If five different tests are done from the same sample batch there will be five different results that will have dramatically different percentages. One test may show 15% and another 52% and still another 32%.
It is also important to note that genuine shilajit is a naturally occurring substance and therefore will never have a set percentage of fulvic acid. So how do some companies claim a set percentage that never changes from batch to batch?
Some wholesalers actually add fulvic acid (often the same fulvic acid used in fertilizers) to claim a standard percentage of fulvic acid. Beware of percentage claims by marketers.
We refuse to add external fulvic acid to our shilajit or get a series of useless tests only to pick the highest result in an attempt to mislead our customers.
This is why we do not make claims about fulvic acid percentage. In our opinion these types of claims are worthless and deceptive based on the scientific reality.

How to Use
Suggested Use: For general maintenance take a small portion, about the size of a grain of rice and dissolve in hot water, hot milk or herbal tea 1-3 times a day. Shilajit can also safely be dissolved under the tongue but be warned that it has a strong bitter flavor.
Amount can be increased to the size of a lentil or pea for greater energy and effect. Shilajit is a plant based mineral resin several million years old and its potency is not affected by heat.
*Traditional Ayurvedic instructions recommend that shilajit be dissolved in hot organic milk or taken with ghee (clarified butter) for Pitta, sesame oil for Vatta, and taken with raw, unpasteurized honey for Kapha, to increase delivery to the body. You may also substitute the previously mentioned products with coconut oil. Follow with a cup of hot water.
According to Ayurveda, Shilajit possesses a property called "Yogavahi" which means that it enhances the properties of other herbs. It acts as a catalytic agent for promoting the action of the other tonic agents. So combine shilajit with other herbal remedies to increase their effect. A popular combination in India is to combine Shilajit with Ashwaganda (Indian Ginseng) for supporting the reproductive system in Men. Women will often combine with Shatavari for the same purpose.
Handling: Genuine purified Shilajit is a black gummy matrix of minerals, fulvic acid and other beneficial phytochemicals. Depending on the ambient temperature, it will become gooey and sticky when warm and when cold it becomes more firm and solid.*This unique quality of changing consistency in concert with ambient temperature is only found with 100% pure and genuine shilajit and is an important indication of authenticity. *Shilajit is much more easily manipulated and workable when warm and soft. There is no need to refrigerate. We have packaged your shilajit in non-reactive, BPA Free, laboratory grade containers made in the USA.
